Sample Method

This selection from the New Testament of the Bible, King James Version adapts the model for stratified sampling of the Bible that was developed by Don Knuth for his book:

3:16, Bible Texts Illuminated
Donald E. Knuth
A-R Editions, Inc.
801 Deming Way
Madison, Wisconsin 53777-1903

The book 3:16, Bible Texts Illuminated combines Don Knuth's life-long interest in Bible study, typography, and art. For each of the 59 books of the Bible with at least 16 verses starting at Chapter 3, verse 1, that book is selected for a chapter. Each lesson has four pages. The first page summarizes the book and its historical context. The second page contains an illustration of the sampled verse, each done by a different one of the world's significant caligraphers. The third page gives the text of that verse and discusses it on that page and the fourth, relating it to other Bible references, and the original languages from which translations have been made. In some cases, his original translations are used.

The book 3:16, Bible Texts Illuminated is a marriage of profound Biblical insights, exquisite calligraphy, and balanced page typography

The adaptation is to show the sentence, possibly multi-verse, that contains the sought [3:16] verse. If that verse doesn't exist in chapter 3, go on to subsequent chapters until the sixteenth verse occurs. If the book is so short that no such verse occurs, then show the final [chapter:verse] and the final sentence of the book.

This work is only my imperfect attempt at sampling the King James Version of the New Testament of Bible. What is extracted here is done by program, without the care, scholarship, and craftsmanship in my inspiration for this work: Don Knuth's 3:16, Bible Texts Illuminated. I recommend you seek and find it, where you will have a much deeper and insightful experience with these chapters and verses.
